Doug Kline combines a deep academic background with decades of real-world experience in technology, teaching, and real estate investment. He earned a B.S. in Applied Mathematics, an MBA, and a Ph.D. in Business from Kent State University, specializing in Operations Research and Information Systems. Doug’s early career was in the software industry, where he served as a Software Engineer, System Architect, and Project Manager. He then transitioned to academia, building a 25-year career with 21 years at UNC Wilmington as a Professor of Information Systems. He rose to the rank of Full Professor and was named Distinguished Professor of Information Systems, mentoring nearly 30 master’s theses and winning the Discere Aude Award for mentorship. He published extensively in neural networks, data analytics, and information systems—work that continues to be cited today. Alongside his teaching, he remained active as a consultant in the software industry, specializing in relational databases and MS SQL Server performance tuning. More than two decades ago, Doug began investing in North Carolina real estate, steadily building a personal portfolio of income-producing properties. He is a licensed North Carolina real estate broker and an active member of the National Association of Realtors and the Triangle Real Estate Investors Association. Doug also values community involvement and volunteers with the nonpartisan North Carolina AARP.
