Karl S. Gwaltney is an experienced attorney at Maginnis Howard, a personal injury, wrongful death, and consumer protection law firm. A native of New Bern, Karl attended UNC School of Law after graduating with honors from Appalachian State University. During law school, he completed over 450 hours of pro bono work and continues public service through volunteer roles at the Wake County Food Bank, as a Guardian ad Litem, and with Legal Aid of North Carolina. Dedicated to client relationships and problem-solving, Karl takes pride in advocating against large corporations. He specializes in consumer protection and class action litigation, handling cases under various federal and state laws related to debt collection and credit. Karl also represents employees in FLSA and NC Wage and Hour Act claims. As lead and class counsel, he has secured substantial settlements and awards for North Carolina consumers in court, arbitration, and before administrative agencies, including the Department of Labor. He is a member of the NAC, NC Advocates for Justice, and NC Bar. Named a Super Lawyers Rising Star (2017-2021) and Super Lawyer (2022-2026), he has presented CLE topics including mass arbitration and currently serves as Vice-Chair of NC Advocates for Justice’s Products Liability section.
